On the afternoon of April 11th 2014, my friend Dina and I tear off the plastic from our newly bought copies of Meet The Vamps (which is a hilariously stupid name for a debut album). We rush to put the CD in my Mum’s car, the first song plays, it’s ‘Wildheart’. We both look at each other, mouths wide open, this is real music.

The Myth of Meritocracy

As of 2019, over a third of the Tory cabinet was privately educated, and 57% went to either Oxford or Cambridge university. This shows us how the cards a person is dealt at birth have the potential to affect the course of the rest of their lives. Those who do succeed despite the odds are spotlighted as parables of progress, but the important element of this to consider is the nature of the odds individuals are up against.

What.Is.So.Terrifying: What can Florence Pugh teach us about freeing the nipple?

In July, Florence Pugh attended the Valentino Haute Couture fashion show wearing a hot pink tulle dress. In her last fitting before the event, she and the designer Pierpaolo Piccioli decided to remove the lining of the dress to eliminate any confusion over the intentionality of its transparency. When photos became public, many outraged keyboard warriors took to social media to express their disgust at the ‘vulgarity’ of Pugh’s fashion choice.
